Books VS Internet

We are wondering how many students still make a research in a public library?  Do they prefer to surf on internet to find all the information they need?

According to an article on RTBF article de la télévision belge (6/3/2010), having an internet connexion does not mean to be able to make a research on the web :
ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles) made a survey on the ability of students to make a research on the web. 1600 students have been interviewed and 90 % of them had a connexion a home. But just 8/20 are able to deal with the information found on the web.

Does internet is a real threat?

  1. I find the result of the published survey very interesting. Less then half of the students is able to make a research on web means that there is a big crowd of people not knowing how to use the web properly, loosing time etc. That also points out a gap in the field of our higher education.

  2. I totally agree with you. Students since High school should be more trained to make a reserach on the web. (and check the sources. Personally, I think it's the biggest mistake when people just copy and paste whithout verifying sources)
